For many clients, retirement is usually a trigger to seek advice about their finances. There is much to consider, particularly for SMSF trustees as they have new responsibilities and considerations when a member retires, such as setting up an investment strategy for retirement, transfer balance account reporting, pension planning and maximising exempt current pension income. However, a fund’s retirement investment strategy objectives will often have different and competing objectives compared to an investment strategy for a fund solely in accumulation phase. As such, there are key considerations for professionals assisting clients as they enter retirement, including how to balance cashflow objectives whilst managing risks, and so on.
This session will focus on:
- Revisiting the investment strategy requirements for retirement and how that impacts an SMSF’s overall investment strategy
- The key retirement risks and how to manage them
- The latest ATO SMSF investment statistics
