The Joint Bodies, including the Institute of Financial Professionals Australia, firmly support and advocate for reforms that strengthen the accounting profession but believe the government’s new rules for tax practitioners overreach in a way that is deeply concerning. Legal advice confirms these rules could force tax practitioners to share personal information, which could include their mental health, with their clients. They could also force tax practitioners to publicise investigations into complaints against them, no matter how spurious or vexatious. We urge the Prime Minister to step in and stop this unfair attack on Australian businesses and their dedicated staff.
