About this event

In the last two years, the ethical rules for accountants and tax agents have changed more than in the previous decade.

The TASA Code of Professional Conduct now carries eight new obligations. Breach reporting now applies to registered tax practitioners. APES 110 has a new section on tax planning, with a "stand-back" test, and APES 220 has been revised.

If you haven't sat down with these changes yet, this session is for you.

What we cover:

  • The five fundamental principles of APES 110, including professional behaviour, and what each one requires of you day to day
  • The conceptual framework and the five threats: self-interest, self-review, advocacy, familiarity and intimidation
  • How APES 110, the APES standards and the TASA Code fit together
  • The eight new TASA Code obligations, when they started applying to your practice, and your breach reporting duties
  • The APES 110 tax planning provisions, including the "credible basis" requirement and the stand-back test
  • How your obligations compare with the financial advisers' Code of Ethics

This isn't a recital of the standards. We start with genuine "right versus right" dilemmas, then work through real practice scenarios, including the client who has been sold the property-and-SMSF deal and wants you to set it up.
